So
how does the New Wave Team
keep their imaginations fresh?

Change
Things Up
People do the same things every day. This
is a major obstruction to creativity. We need
to experience new and diverse things in order
to ignite creative ideas. If you’re
driving home and usually listen to country
music, try switching to a jazz or rock station.
Maybe you eat lunch every day at a pasta place
around the corner - change things up and try
a Japanese or Greek place once a week. Anything
we can do to change our normal routine and
introduce more variety to our lives will allow
us to see things in different lights and give
us a better sense of our environment. |

Carry
a Notebook
"You never know when an idea
will occur to you--an idea for a new business
or a better way of doing what you're presently
doing. As you drive, watch TV, eat lunch,
ideas pop into your head. Unless you write
them down, you will not remember them,"
says Kathleen R. Allen, author of Launching
New Ventures and a professor of entrepreneurship
at the University of Southern California in
Los Angeles. |

Respond
to Ideas Quickly
Don’t let creative work or ideas sit
on your desk for two or three weeks - people
will produce more creative ideas in response
to quick feedback. The quicker you respond
to an idea, the more energetic and excited
people become about generating more ideas. |

Give
Experiences & Opportunities
Give employees opportunities to get outside
their usual working environment. The more
variety an employee has in his/her job, the
more creatively they will think. If one of
your employees usually deals with production
personnel, ask them to work with a distribution
manager. This will also give your employee
a broader sense of your company. |

Criticize
& Evaluate Later
Encourage and be positive when brainstorming
and collecting ideas from the group. Don’t
criticize any idea no matter how crazy or
unachievable it might sound. You want to come
up with as many ideas and concepts as possible
and explore the real imaginations of the group.
Generating ideas and brainstorming should
have nothing to do with evaluation. |
